Terms of Use

By accessing and using MyHeroHaven.org (the "Site"), you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, please do not use this Site.

Hero Haven Institute ("Hero Haven," "we," "us," or "our") grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use this Site for personal, non-commercial purposes consistent with the institution's public mission and the purposes for which this Site is operated.

You may not use this Site:

  • To engage in any activity that is unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful to Hero Haven or others
  • To scrape, copy, or reproduce content from this Site for commercial purposes without written permission
  • To submit false or misleading information through any form or inquiry pathway
  • To interfere with the Site's operation, security, or infrastructure
  • To impersonate Hero Haven, its leadership, or any board member or representative

Hero Haven reserves the right to terminate access to the Site or any form pathway for violations of these terms at its sole discretion.

Charitable Organization Status

Hero Haven Institute is organized as a Texas-based 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its formal legal status, tax identification number (EIN: 42-2404064), and governing documents are matters of public record.

Tax-exempt status and charitable registration documentation are available upon written request. Please contact us for documentation requests related to gift planning, due diligence, or institutional verification.

Note on 501(c)(3) recognition: Hero Haven is in the process of completing its formal IRS recognition of tax-exempt status. The institution has been organized as a 501(c)(3) and its EIN has been issued (42-2404064). Formal determination letter from the IRS is pending. Until that determination is received, contributions may or may not be tax-deductible depending on applicable IRS guidance for organizations with pending applications. Consult your independent tax advisor.

Charitable Giving Disclosures

Tax deductibility

Contributions to Hero Haven Institute may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable federal and state law. The deductibility of any specific contribution depends on a donor's individual tax situation, the nature of the gift, and the formal tax status of Hero Haven at the time the gift is made.

Hero Haven does not provide tax advice. All donors are encouraged to consult their independent tax advisor or legal counsel before making a charitable gift.

Donor intent and use of funds

Hero Haven is committed to honoring donor intent. Restricted gifts — gifts designated for a specific purpose, program, or named facility — will be used in accordance with the donor's stated intent as documented in the pledge agreement or gift documentation, subject to board approval and the institution's gift acceptance policies.

Unrestricted gifts are used at the discretion of the board and leadership to serve the institution's mission at the point of greatest institutional need. Hero Haven will communicate with major donors regarding the deployment of their gifts with the transparency and regularity appropriate to the size and nature of the contribution.

Capital campaign commitments

Philanthropic commitments to the Phase I capital campaign are subject to a pledge agreement that will be provided to each donor at the time of commitment. Pledge agreements specify the amount, timing, payment schedule, and any applicable naming or recognition terms.

Commitments are recorded at the time of pledge agreement execution. Fulfillment of commitments is subject to the terms of the individual pledge agreement. Hero Haven does not begin construction before 50% of Phase I capital is secured — this guardrail protects donors who commit early from a project that cannot complete.

Refund policy

Hero Haven evaluates refund requests on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the board. Outright charitable gifts are generally non-refundable under IRS guidance governing charitable contributions. Pledge commitments may be subject to modification under extraordinary circumstances, at the board's discretion and in accordance with the terms of the applicable pledge agreement.

Planned Giving Disclosure

Hero Haven welcomes conversations about planned gifts, including bequests, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, qualified charitable distributions, and other deferred giving instruments. Planned giving conversations are handled confidentially and at the pace appropriate to the relationship.

Important: Hero Haven is not a licensed financial advisor, estate planning attorney, or tax professional. Nothing on this Site constitutes financial, legal, or tax advice. Individuals considering a planned gift should consult their independent estate planning attorney, financial advisor, and tax counsel before making any gift or modifying their estate plan.

Individuals considering a bequest or planned gift in support of Hero Haven are encouraged to notify us of their intention so that we may acknowledge their commitment, ensure that their gift is directed as intended, and include them in the institution's planned giving recognition program.

Planned gifts are subject to Hero Haven's gift acceptance policies, which are maintained by the board and available upon request.

Naming Opportunities

Hero Haven offers naming opportunities in connection with transformational and leadership-level philanthropic commitments. The institution's naming framework operates at two distinct levels:

  • Institutional naming is singular — one naming opportunity exists at the level of the institution itself. The donor at this level has the opportunity to associate their name or family legacy with the institution permanently, across its legal identity, campus presence, and public reputation.
  • Building and program naming is available at the leadership level — multiple donors may attach their names to specific campus facilities (including the Main Institutional Building, Wellness and Restoration Center, Hospitality Wing, Family Center, and Golf Facility) and named program endowments within the institution's programming model.

Naming agreements address the scope of the naming right, the duration of recognition, conditions under which a name may be removed, and any other terms relevant to the specific gift. All naming agreements are subject to final approval by the Hero Haven board of directors.

Hero Haven reserves the right to decline naming opportunities that are inconsistent with the institution's mission, values, or legal obligations — including naming requests from donors whose public conduct or associations would compromise the institution's reputation or integrity.

Naming inquiries should be directed through the confidential donor inquiry pathway.
